Artists Statement
Oh ... to be able to paint and draw everyday, or to take my camera and just follow the sun from dawn till dusk. In a perfect world there is no dirty laundry, no errands to run, no groceries to get. But if I want to eat I guess I need groceries. So be it. But all the best times were spent painting or drawing. When I was in school I would rush to finish my work so I could draw. As a teen I drew portraits to put myself through Art College. Ever job I have ever had was to support my habit. Art! I guess I'm stuck with it. The need to create is in my blood. I see everything as a possible painting. The colors of snow, the subtle tones in an apple blossom, water lapping the bottom of a boat or raindrops on a window. Every image speaks to me. I live in one of the most beautiful places in the world. Surrounded by apple orchards, rolling fields, the Bay of Fundy, beautiful farms and Victorian homes. Living in Nova Scotia can be hell. If I painted non-stop for 10 lifetimes I would still not be finished. Just a walk through the orchard can be overwhelming. An afternoon kayaking with my husband, Dwight, and my head is spinning for days. The hardest thing to do is to pick one idea and to work on just that one. But I do and I will paint that one, then the next and so on.
Maybe someday Dwight will run all the errands, do all the paperwork and answer all the calls. And I'll teach the dog to cook! Then maybe I'll be able to paint and draw everyday, or to take my camera and just follow the sun from dawn till dusk.
Enjoy and keep watching cause there's always new art coming.
